Thanksgiving, 2004. Noah is my youngest son, and he is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas majoring in English. He spent his freshman year at Slippery Rock University. His wife, Chika, graduated from SRU in 2004 (Business Administration) and is a graduate student at the University of Arkansas, in the Master's of Transporation Management program. They met at Slippery Rock University, in their tennis class.

His official Vanderbilt Commodores football photograph, August, 2004. My eldest son is a senior at Vanderbilt University, majoring in Organizational and Human Development. He played varsity soccer his freshman year at Colgate University, then transferred to Vanderbilt and is a place kicker for the Commodores. He lettered in the 2003 season.

Great movie! Funny, touching, full of love. Five stars! Story of Indian girl in England who loves to play soccer, only her traditional family disproves. Will she obey her parents? Will her love for soccer (and her dislike of traditionalism) result in her hurting the people she loves? Will her love for her soccer coach ruin her friendship with her best friend/teammate? Will they win the tournament? Can she bend it like beckham? (David Beckham is the world's greatest soccer player - "bend it" means putting some voodoo on the ball so it "bends" in midair, misleading the goalie - kinda like a curve ball). Make sure you watch the credits at the end, there are some funny outtakes included. Rent this movie - NOW!

Below is a link to a story about the Aljazerra documentary, The Control Room, being shown in Arab countries. The documentary presents a very balanced view of the attempts to have an independent Arab news network. It is controversial, because it shows Sec of State Rumsfeld at his worst (preaching propaganda about how civilian deaths are "staged" in Iraq by Aljazerra, even as scenes are shown clearly showing civilian deaths) and because it accuses the US of targeting Aljazerra and other Arab news networks offices (one Aljazerra reporter was killed in an airstrike on their offices, even though the US had the GPS coordinates of the office - or because they had the coordinates). My American Government honors class enjoyed the film. One interviewee, Lt. Rushing of the US Marines, really showed great intelligence and introspection in his many conversations with Aljazerra reporters. Excellant film.
