Scientists have been finding lots of dead sea creatures on the california coast, more so than in years past. Also, a declining amount of plankton, important for sea life. My symposium on Sustainable Community Programs just appeared in print in Public Administration Quarterly - one of the articles is about Santa Monica. Located on a beautiful bay, Santa Monica is land limited: it can't engage in sprawl, since it is land locked. The land it has is all it has, and the bay gives Santa Monica its beauty, its economy. So Santa Monica turns out to be one of the most committed communities to sustainability. If the plankton goes, the pacific coast will be an entire dead area.
