Tom Waits performs on Fernwood tonight (and Letterman show)

Here is Tom Waits on Letterman show, great performance. But here is Tom Waits on the classic TV show "Fernwood Tonight." Here are the words to Tom Waits' "Big Joe and the Phantom 309" (which is a Red Sovine song.)

Fernwood Tonight was a TV show in the 70's starring Martin Mull (called Barth Gimble) and Fred Willard - set in Fernwood, Ohio, it was a "cable" show that mocked the tonight show. It was based on Martin Mull's comedy show Martin Mull and his Furniture. Absolutely so funny - great show. They had ridiculous guests, like the guy in the iron lung who could play the piano upside down, Tom Waits (see above). The music was supplied by Happy Kine and his Mirthmakers, complete with accordian and plaid suit. Very funny. More fernwood hereand here and more here and finally here.
